I went to my petshop and I felll in love with a baby rat. Do they make good pets?Do rats make good pets?
Rats make very good pets, as they are very clean, fun to handle, and relatively easy to take care of. If this is your first pet, you couldn't have picked a much better choice!Do rats make good pets?
I have had two rats as pets. They are awesome if you like to have a pet that's not the most common (: The only bad thing is that they don't live for very long compared to the other pets you could get.
My 8 year old cousin had a pet rat when she was 6. Her mam owns a petshop so she bred it herself. They are good once you know what you're doing
they are intelligent, and I've had a friend who had a pet rat, it always had gerbal/rat toys and moved around in its fully enclosed clear plastic gerbil ball ... its still a freaky looking pet
Rats are the best pets in the world, they are sweet natured, inquisitive, cuddly, playful and they make wonderful freinds! Unlike other rodents such as mice gerbils and hamsters, they will live longer, smell better and are more likely to be freindly. (Dont even get me started on my old Hamster, Viper... *shudder* She wasnt called Viper for nothing...)
However, I would recommend buying a rat from a breeder or adopting one from a rescue center before buying that one.
Yes they do. They're quite intelligent (they will learn quickly through repetition and become quicker at solving a repeated problem) and can be taught to do tricks for food. Domesticated rats are quite different to the wild variety, and if handled young won't give any problems.
It is worth checking them out, and think what your plans might be; keeping several can get tricky, and a pair of females is the usual option if you want to have more than one.
