I'm not a breeder, but I have girls that I need to re home. They were born in my house. I didn't sell them back to the pet store, because I know what happens there. I know, it's nature, but personally, I would never sell a rat as live food. But I don't want to make the price too high, scaring off the legit owners. So how much should I charge for a pet rat?How much should I price a rat to make sure it's not going as a feeder?
I would go to all the local pet stores and see what they sell their rats for and then mark your rats higher than that. So I'd sy $15 is good, that's a reasonable price to pay for a good pet, but it's a high price to pay for the lunch of a snake. How much should I price a rat to make sure it's not going as a feeder?
Id say around $10 is a good price to ask, plus you need to ask questions like what kind of cage the person has and who will be taking care of the rat, etc etc
I just wanted to warn you that some people might come to your door wanting your rat and they might still use it as a feeder rat. I knew a guy who ONLY bought pet rats for his snake because a pet rat is less likely to try to fight the snake off than a skiddish feeder rat. He would lie and even brought his daughter in with him, acting like it was going to be her pet rat. But actually he went home and fed it to his snake :(
Since most snakes only eat once or twice a month, its totally possible to come up with a bunch of pet rats that people wanted to get rid of as pets. I know its sad, but its true!!!
So just make sure that the person youre giving the rat to has good intentions!
I'd say $10 to $20. A true rat lover would be willing to pay the price to give them a good home. You can always advertise a price to filter out the questionable people and then re-home for free once you are confident you found a good home.
i have 5 rats and and 2 of them are hairless an i paid $10 for one hairless one and i went to the pet store and bought 2 baby hairless but sadly one of em died but i paid $10 for the pair. so sell it for about $5 to $10 depending on how old it is.
You should charge whatever you feel is right, however when you talk to the buyer ask them what they will be doing with the rat, and you should know if you should give it away or keep it.
10 to 20 is avarge i sell my rats for 20 ebcuase there lovley creatures breed for temper and color i breed pet rats and mice =] but if i sell to a pet shop its 7 just advistise them in a news paper or signs in newspaper =]
No more then 10$ and not 1$ because feeders ae usualy 1-2 so id say 10

I've had pet rats and never paid more than $7. I also have bought feeder rats and paid $11. So no guarantees. Sorry.
