Because they may need bigger ones, because rats run around and are more playful, and arnt they twice as likley to be thirsty?.
Also while I am gonna start breeding... Just one question. Are black rats rare or common? Is an hamster water bottle ok for a rat?
Rats can use a small water bottle as long as you make sure it is filled constantly. I usually use the medium sized ones to make sure they always have water.
If you are thinking about breeding, please read this article on new breeders: http://careguide.evergreenrattery.com/ne鈥?/a>
Black rats are very very common and it is more unlikely that you will be able to find them homes. You also should not be breeding rats you do not know the background of, I am assuming you got them from a pet store and don't have their pedigrees (correct me if I am wrong). Breeding unknown rats, nice though they may be, isn't good for rats overall as you have no idea what health problems to expect or what genetic disorders may crop up.
If you're going to breed anyway, I would highly recommend you study genetics, it is easier than it sounds and you will have a better idea of how to get babies that are not all black, not that black rats aren't lovely, but it is harder to find them homes.

.
Yeah sure!
yes, they ARE ALL THE SAME JUST DIFFEREnt sizes
I think you answered your own question, Rats are larger creatures and will naturally consume more.
Black rats are rather common in London, can't speak for everywhere else though.
I use a bunny water bottle for mine, and they are only babies!
Hamster water bottle will be fine!
