How can i get my rat to use his wheel and ball?

I got a running wheel and a ball for my rat. He doesn't use it though. does he not like it or does he not know how to use it. how can i teach him to use it? suggestions?How can i get my rat to use his wheel and ball?
Wheels are only good for rats if they're solid and large enough, not the kind with the spokes. They can get their legs caught and break them.





The running balls aren't good for the rats back. They're much happier if let to free roam a couch or bathroom or bedroom if its rat proofed.





Also. You say your ';rat.'; Does your rat have a friend? If not, he really needs a same sex friend. They get very lonely and depressed if they don't.How can i get my rat to use his wheel and ball?
Your rat probably doesn't feel safe in either a ball or a wheel.


I know that they are made specially for rats, but the majority of rats hate them. And with good reason, too.


Because rats have such long tails, they can trip over them if they're in a wheel or a ball, and although it might not hurt them very often, they tend not to enjoy the experience.
My rat, Charlie, genuinely hates his ball. He loathes it. However, my other rat, Elliot, adores the ball. Some rats just don't like balls.





They both enjoy the wheel, but Charlie wouldn't use it when he was alone. When I bought Elliot, because rats can get depressed alone, he started using his wheel. He's even complain and knock Elliot off when he wasn't using it.





If your rat doesn't have a cage mate, then he might not know how to run. Not to mention, they prefer to climb more than he prefers to run.
well your rat probably is afraid of using it. his tail could get chopped off if it gets caught in the wheel so i wouldnt try to teach him to use it.i have a rat and he doesnt like his wheel no matter what i do so i did research and i found that there tails could get caght in the bars of the wheel so i took it out of his cage
Well I'm not a huge fan of runnig balls. But the wheels are okay in my opinion. Rats learn very quick from other rats. When they see another rat using a wheel they will start doing it themselfs. So maybe you can borrow a rat from a friend that does know how to use a wheel and ';teaches'; it to your rats.

i'd leave a wheel or something in there incase they investigate with it, but you cant exactly ';teach it';
