How do I get my boston bull terrier to get along with my rat terrier?

My 5 year old boston terrier we just got from the pound HATES my 1 year old rat terrier. How do i get them to be friends and what is the estimated time it would take??How do I get my boston bull terrier to get along with my rat terrier?
I recently adopted a Kelpie x Border Collie puppy from our local shelter. We have a 7 and a half year old mixed breed dog. For the first week our older dog was very standoffish and rather aggressive at times towards the puppy, who only wanted to play with him. I've had the puppy for 6 weeks now and the two of them are great buddies, with only minor snarling and lunges if the pup gets annoying. It usually takes about 2 weeks for them to sort out who's the boss and any aggression should not be interrupted unless it is life threatening or completely out of order. Our older dog was evicted outside if he lunged at our puppy for no reason. He's got the message now. Remember though that you can't make two dogs like each other; they're just like people. How do I get my boston bull terrier to get along with my rat terrier?
Get a jack russel
You can't make a dog like another dog. It takes time for them to get used to and they may never really like each other. I would first start with the dog who is causing the most problems and work with it, get it used to not being the only dog.
