I have two male rats. One is a healthy weight and very energetic. The other is pretty pudgy and lazy compared to the other. How do I get my heavier rat to lose weight without denying my other rattie food?
Serious answers only, please! How do I put my pet rat on a diet?
do not free feed them and keep them on a diet of Lab Block like Mazuri. Give them ONE lab block a piece three times a day. They will learn that they cannot stash the block and must eat it then.
Free feed broccoli, carrots, peas, Kale, or any dark green veggie.
Most of the people in my Rat Club have scales to measure their rats weights and keep track of gain/loss for health reasons. How do I put my pet rat on a diet?
Try putting them in two separate cages for a little while until the fat rat becomes thinner and more energetic.
I would try putting them in two seperate cages. If you need to you could feed the heavier rat diet food or just a little less. Are both the rats the same age, because the heavier one could just be getting older. My rat got lazy in her last couple months of life. She was four and a half. If not just until the heavier one gets his energy and normal body size back.
Are you feeding a seed-based diet? If so, stop, and switch to the pellet diet. Rats tend to get a lil' chunky, with the seed diets, because they'll pick %26amp; choose what they want to eat, and it's usually all the fatty foods there.
