The best way to tell is to look at the babies. If she is feeding them you will see a white patch on their bellies, which is the mother's milk in their stomachs. If they do not have this white patch, she is not feeding them.
If a mother has rejected one litter, let alone two, she should not be bred from again. If this is her third litter, she should never be bred again as well, as female rats should not be bred more than three times in their life. Some mother rats have problems with lactation (especially some hairless varieties) and know they cannot care for their babies so they abandon them or kill some of them. Other times it is simply unknown. In either case, stop breeding her. This behaviour may continue on in her babies so if any of them are being bred they may do the same thing. How does a mother rat take care of her babies? How do we know she's caring for them?
I'm Giggles and I'm not breeding my rats ok they sneak out of their cage and end up getting pregnant ok people so stop accusing me of breeding them when u don't know if i am or not ok!!!! :(

Why are you breeding a mother who abandoned 2 litters? Please stop breeding. Anyway, if you hear the babies squeak, they are still alive. Don't touch them, obviously she can't trust you around her babeis.
she will carry them in her mouth and keep them fairly close together and allow them to suckle her for food.
