I recently bought a rat. I heard they need the company of their own kind, and I was wondering, If I buy a new rat, will they not want to hang out as much with me? Will they not be as interested in me? But yet, each other instead? Thanks guys.Should I buy ONE or TWO rats? Why?
2 because they are very social animals. They say you should spend 1 hour a day of quality time with them. But if you do get another one don't take them both out at the same time because they can be a little hard to handle but they are really sweet and smart and you can buy them harnesses and leashes at Petsmart. Type taking care of pet rats in your search engine and look up how to take care of them and their feeding because some things are toxic to them.Should I buy ONE or TWO rats? Why?
you should buy 2 rats bccasue 1. if you already have a boy rat you can get a female rat or if you have a girl rat you can get a boy rat and they can mate and have babies, but when the girl rat have babies you have to take the babies out because the moma rat will eat the babies.
I had two rats when i was younger. It all depends on how much time you spend at home with your pet. Two rats like to cuddle when they sleep. If you have a big cage its fun to watch them play together. Rats are intelligent sociable animals and thrive on interesting stuff to do and play with so having one should be fine if they have lots of stuff too do. But if he/she had a buddy she will still love you just the same xxx
They'll still love you and want to be around you. They do best in pairs, for the main reason that you're not always there to handle them. They hate being alone.
Now, there are the occasional rats that just don't get along with others and want to be alone, but for the most part, you should always buy in pairs.
get 2 rats...i guess it would be alot better for one to have the company of the other.
Rats are a social species and need the company of their own kind.
Single housing causes ';isolation stress'; which can lead to stereotypic behaviours, reduced immune response and poor health, and reduced lifespan.
Human company is nice, but it doesn't replace the company of other rats.
Getting another rat will not make your rat forget you or be less interested in you. Sadly, this is still a common urban myth.
