male rats don't always fight. I find males better personally as I have had 3 pairs of male rat and 2 pairs of females, males are better if you just want to cuddle and have a nice 'watching tv' or 'sitting around' pet. Also males rats are much easier to be trained to do tricks, I taught one of mine to put a ball through a hoop, it was soo cute lol.Should I get male or female rats?
Female rats are more active and though they can be little love bugs as well, they usually just stop by for a quick scratch on their travels until they get sleepy. A female's urine is often less irritating to someone who has allergies. Spaying your female rat can eliminate the possibility of deadly uterine infections and reduce the risk of developing tumors; they're notorious for tumors of all kinds. Females are fertile at 4 weeks and need to be removed from males immediately. Young or back to back pregnancies can cause death. Adopt some babies from a private rescue to avoid this problem.
In their old age males can lose mobility in their hind end and, being less flexible, develop penis plugs when they can't clean themselves. They're affectionate and more laid back, willing to sit happily in your lap for cheek scratches and kisses. Males shouldn't have anything citrus related as it can cause cancer. Between 3-5 months they hit puberty and may or may not display aggression that can be fixed with a neuter and love. If you find them stinky or that a rat has alot of buck grease, a neuter can also help with that.
In general, male rats are more docile and cuddly. But, they smell worse than females. Females are more energetic and feisty. These are just generalizations, individuals will have their own personality.
Hi,
I have done research on rats and if you do not want to breed you should get two females, two males will fight and a male and a female will have baby's.
Good Luck!
Males= Calm but smell a bit more.
Females= Don't smell as much but are more feisty.
I think you should get two females
