When I get my rat out the cage she hates being petted and prefers to run off. She isn't scared she just doesn't like human interaction. I have tried giving her treats to keep her still but she just runs off with them and stashed them under my wardrobe! Does anyone have any tips on how I can make her enjoy being petted? How can i get my rat to stay still?
Instead of giving her a treat she can run off with try yogurt or baby food on a spoon or your finger if you trust her not to nip you. This way if she wants the goodies she has to be close to you and once she associates you with food she will want to be with you! Just be patient.
Good Luck! How can i get my rat to stay still?
Not possible. Rats are curious by nature, and she may be even more hyper than average. She sees the time spent out of the cage as an opportunity to explore. She may calm down a tiny bit if she has a cage mate to play with, as she may exude more energy while she is in the cage, and therefore be somewhat calmer when you take her out. I would hold your breath for that one though.
You can't exactly make a rat to stay still. They explore by nature, I think..
One of my sister's rats used to stay on her lap, but not any more because she's used to my sister now and she knows she can get away with stuff O_o
You can't she's a hyper rat! She may calm down at around a year and a half old, but many don't.
Try giving her food she can't run off with, like yogurt!
