What is the BEST rat poison? Preferably something that will make the rat leave the house before dying?

I don't want to use mouse traps (I know I've saw a mouse, I'm not sure there are rats, but the little mice are bad enough). I don't want to hear the ';snap'; sound %26amp; find their bodies crushed in a trap. I heard there was something that could be bought that has something in it that lures the mice to it, to nibble on it. And it dehydrates them, causing them to leave the home, to go search for water %26amp; they die while trying to find water. They say this is the best way, because the mice leave the house %26amp; you never have to deal with the bodies. How does that D-Con stuff work, that I've saw advertised on tv? Does anyone know what stuff I'm talking about? I can't afford an exterminator. Any honest suggestions are appreciated. Thank you! What is the BEST rat poison? You know what? This is ridiculous. I love animals, I really do. BUT I love my family and daughter more than animals. Undomesticated rats can carry all sorts of dangerous diseases. If you care more for wild animals than the safety of your family then maybe you should not ever have a family.

The same stuff Doctors give us for certain medical conditions - Warfarin. No it doesn't make them die of thirst - it thins their blood to a point where it won't 'clot' and they literally bleed to death internally.
Most rat and mouse poisons work that way now. The active ingredient in many of them is actually warfarin, which is prescribed to millions of people as a blood thinner. The vermin eat the poisoned bait, and they leave the house, and they bleed to death internally later on. That's what's in D-Con, and there's another one called Rodex, I believe.

You put the stuff out regularly, and it can take a couple of weeks before you notice that your problem is going away, but it does work. Be careful though, because some rodents will feel ill and if they have nests built in your house, like behind the wallboard, they will simply bed down there, and die, which leaves you with the smell of a decomposing little body in your house, which is very unpleasant.

There is another type of trap, which is generally called a sticky trap. I don't know the brand names, but I have actually used them before for our spider problem. We have big trees all around our house, and every spring we get spiders, and they don't go away until it gets really, really cold. A sticky trap is basically just a box which is open at one or both ends. It is baited with stuff that smells really good, but it also has the tackiest glue on the planet on all sides. The mouse or rat goes into the box because of how good it smells, and then it cannot get out again. You do have to take the traps and throw them away. You have one of two choices. You can throw the little critter away, too, which is kind of hard, since they die of starvation. Your other option is to take it to an open field or something far from your house, and let the critter go. They used to use those at my work, and if the custodian found one that was alive, he took it out to a field, and used some vegetable oil spray, like Pam, and just sprayed the little guys until they fell of the cardboard and scampered off. Some people are too squeamish to use that kind of trap, but I just thought I would tell you about it, since I have known people who have ended up with dead mice someplace because of poison, and then they had to go looking for the body.

Either of those should work fine for you, depending on whether or not you want to rescue stuck mice. Exterminators are just too darned expensive, so hopefully one of those will work well for you.

Good luck!
Using over the counter poisons work, since rats and mice dehydrate, it is a good idea to leave several large bowls of water scattered strategically around the dwelling, this will usually draw the pests out before dieing. Be extremely careful with poisons, particularly around pets and children.
Check a local farm supply place like Tractor Supply or Lowe's. There is a rat poison that kills the rodents just like regular poison, but there is no smell involved. I know it sounds crazy, but it's true.

The only trouble with using poison is that other rats will take their place and it is only a short term solution. You need either an exterminator or a cat.
Dry cement mixed in flour and leave some water in a flat tray or saucer nearby. This works.
Get a cat...
I HATE it When people leave these type of comments in the RODENT section but this section is for people with a heart and CARE for the animals unlike you!! You can just buy a humane rat trap which catches them in a box and you then release them into the wild again !! Or are you so disgusting that you want to see the poor thing lying there in pain and sufferring while it dies !!!!
In India, it is sold as ';Roban'; or ';Rat Kill'; These are green cakes, which the rats bits and go out of the house and then die.
DiCon works good. It may be asking too much to convince the little critters to eat your poison then conveniently go next door to check out.
u seriosly need to change ur name thing ...loving care... its like killin a dog or person....thats terrible the poor things are just stayin in ur house because it is a little chili out side and i am sure if u were homeless and needed a shelter and food u wouldnt want the ones you thought were helping you to just out of no were kill you! my god ! they dont eat much....and seriosly they are trying to save there lives and you are trying to take it away! i have a few mice in my garage and my dad and i put a box out with rat/mouse food and a little toilet paper in the box and they are living fine... u need to grow a organ like i dont know a HEART!! my god!
