hi
you can't catch anything from rat bites unless it a wild rat but just make sure your mum is up to date with her tetanus.
your rat has been fed tit bits through cage bars bad idea as you now the result of that.
don't feed it through the bars anymore %26amp; be careful when near cage.
your mum can still hold your rat if she wants.
does your rat bite when out the cage? if it does you need to think about what you want to do with it as you can't stop a rat from biting.
rachel %26amp; the rat gang xI have a petsmart rat and my mom made sudden movements on rat. Will she get sick from it?
sounds like the rate was used to getting fed through the cage. Not a good idea, not she thinks that everything coming near the cage is gonna be food and bites it!
Does not sound like a mean rat, just one that has some bad habits. Never give treats or toys thought the cage, always take her out, put food in, then put her back in the cage.
One of my rats was a nibbler when I got her. It took about 2 months before she calmed down and adjusted to us. Now she's a sweetie. Your mom probably just scared your rat really badly so now it's really scared. Just be patient but if you're really worried then take the rat back or find a new home for it.
I have 3 rats and 2 chinchillas from different Petsmarts and they are all GREAT pets! I love them all, they are the sweetest. Not all big pet stores have bad pets.
I've had the same problem with pets from Petsmart (I bought the rabbit from hell there.) I don't know how well, if at all, they assess their animals' behavior. I would take it back. You could surrender it to the SPCA but they generally do not keep or adopt out animals with behavioral problems, especially biting.
Give your rat a week or two to adjust first - put him in a quiet room and don't go in there too often for about a week except to feed and water him. This method worked well when I had rabbits (though not, of course, with the abovementioned rabbit!)
Rats are normally not agresive are you sure she wasnt mean to it.anyway give it some space for a bit and make no suden movements
rats make great pets
If the rat bit her, she could get sick. Tell her to get a tetnus shot ASAP!
Rats? Why would anybody wants rats as pet? You probably mean hamsters or guinea pigs.
Even so, pets are not supposed to be aggressive towards their owners. If they are, something is wrong and they should be returned to the pet store.
